Overview: Zwartkop Country Club is a historic 18-hole parkland course in Centurion, where tree-lined fairways, the Hennops River and established club traditions create a classic Gauteng round. The official club describes the layout as a championship course with the river influencing ten holes. Mature trees and changing water lines make placement important, while the central location keeps the course closely connected to Pretoria’s urban golf scene.
History: The club officially opened on the Zwartkops farm in 1933 and has since become one of the best-known historic courses in the Pretoria region. The original layout is associated with Bob Grimsdell, and later course work has continued as the river, estate and surrounding city have changed. Zwartkop’s long history includes periods when flooding affected parts of the course, but the club’s current presentation retains the identity of an established 18-hole parkland venue.
Did You Know? A giant tree stands in the middle of the downhill second fairway, creating a choice between carrying it and shaping a route around it. It is the kind of old-course feature that cannot be added by a modern earthmover: the tree has become part of the hole’s strategy and memory.
