Overview: Golfclub Zeewolde sits on reclaimed polder land in Flevoland, several meters below sea level. Designed by Joan Dudok van Heel and opened in 1984, the course has evolved from a flat landscape into a lush parkland setting. Players encounter significant water hazards and diverse wildlife throughout their round. The wind remains a constant challenge, creating a distinct seaside atmosphere despite the inland location.
History: The club officially opened its doors to golfers in 1984 on land reclaimed from the sea. Architect Joan Dudok van Heel designed the layout to integrate with the unique polder environment. Over time, the initially flat terrain has matured into a wooded parkland course. This transformation highlights Dutch engineering and the resilience of nature in this man-made landscape.
Did You Know? Every single tree and mound on the course was planted or created by hand just a few decades ago. It is a completely man-made landscape that has quickly become a thriving natural ecosystem. The site sits several meters below sea level, requiring constant water management to maintain playability. This unique origin story distinguishes it from most traditional golf courses found in Europe.
