Overview: Zebula is a bushveld golf course in the Waterberg, where Peter Matkovich’s 18-hole design moves through red earth, open savanna, indigenous trees and the broad silence of the Limpopo interior. The course plays to par 72 and measures about 6,312 metres in the published course guide. Its challenge comes from choosing the correct line through natural vegetation and judging how much of the generous landscape can safely be used.
History: Zebula was developed as a golf and wildlife estate rather than as a conventional urban club. The course forms part of a larger Waterberg destination built around bush accommodation, conservation and outdoor activities, with Matkovich’s design keeping the natural terrain visible from nearly every fairway. That combination has made Zebula a recognisable golf stop beyond the Gauteng city circuit.
Did You Know? Wildlife is part of the course’s daily setting. Zebula is known for animals moving through the estate, so a golfer may read a shot while watching the bush for movement; the course’s most memorable interruptions are often living ones rather than hazards manufactured by the designer.
