Overview: Ystad Golfklubb sits at Nybrostrand, a few kilometres east of Ystad, where the course runs close to the Baltic shoreline of southern Skåne. The layout mixes parkland framing with an open, seaside feel, and the winding Nybro river and a series of ponds shape much of the front nine. The opening hole is a par three over water and the third has an island green, so precision is asked for early, while the sea wind decides how long the rest of the card plays.
History: The club was founded in 1930 and admitted to the Swedish Golf Federation in 1933 as one of the country's earliest members, playing a nine-hole course on the Nybrofältet ground. The Second World War closed the course and the clubhouse served as a military base. Golf only returned in 1953 on a reduced six-hole layout, and the course was then rebuilt and extended over the following decades into the present eighteen, a design associated with the Swedish architect Thure Bruce.
Did You Know? The third hole has an island green, while the opening par three also carries water. Those early shots bring the course’s ponds and the nearby Nybro River into play before the round opens towards the Baltic.
