Overview: Yokohama Country Club’s East Course presents 18 hillside holes at par 73 with a current published length of 6,508 yards. The original design by Takeo Aiyama and Hideo Takemura uses the natural Yokohama ground, pine planting and separated fairways, while later work created a more modern single-green presentation. The result is a strategic parkland course with a notably unusual par structure.
History: The club was established in 1958 and the East and West courses opened in 1960. East underwent major one-green and grading work from 2000 to 2010. The club also records major championships at the property, including the Japan Open and Japan Women’s Open, while Coore & Crenshaw later rebuilt the West and the East 17th and 18th.
Did You Know? East has five par fives, which is one reason its total is par 73 rather than the more common 72. The 17th and 18th also connect the East story to the later Coore & Crenshaw work, because those closing holes were included in the 2014 to 2016 renovation project.
