Overview: Yelverton is a moorland course on the southern edge of Dartmoor, north of Plymouth. Herbert Fowler’s routing uses the elevated Devon ground, heather and old mining ravines, with the long opening par three and the closing holes setting an exacting tone.
History: The present course opened for play in 1920, one year after Fowler completed the East Course at Saunton. The club has since retained the character of a private members’ course while developing a reputation for a natural, strategic layout rather than a heavily engineered one.
Did You Know? Several ravines and mounds on the course are understood as remnants of historic tin mining, and the club’s topography brings those features into play around holes such as the sixth, thirteenth and eighteenth.
