Overview: Yeamans Hall Club, located in Hanahan near Charleston, South Carolina, is a historic golden-age masterpiece designed by Seth Raynor. Winding through rolling, moss-draped oak forests and tidal marshes, the course serves as a beautifully preserved time capsule of Lowcountry charm. It is wide and playable off the tee but demands high strategic precision on approach shots to hold Raynor's signature, large, squared-off green complexes.
History: Founded in 1925 as a exclusive winter retreat for wealthy northerners, the club has famously protected Raynor's original plans from modernization. In the late 1990s, architect Tom Doak was brought in to perform a meticulous restoration, clearing out non-native trees, expanding fairways, and restoring Raynor's bold, geometric templates (including a classic Redan and Biarritz) to their original dimensions.
Did You Know? For decades after its opening, the club famously maintained sand greens rather than grass, a traditional Lowcountry practice that persisted long after other courses converted to modern turf. The club's relaxed, understated atmosphere is further preserved by a complete absence of tee times and a strict walking-only policy.
