Overview: Yani Golf Club, also known as Ahmad Yani Golf Club, is an 18-hole, par-72 parkland course in southern Surabaya at Mastrip Gunungsari. APLGI describes narrow, tree-lined fairways following hilly contours and lists 5,874 metres from the championship tees, approximately 6,424 yards. The course is associated with Prof. Erich Kremmer, who renovated it in 1980, and current golf references attribute the design to him. Its playing character is traditional: mature trees, modest-width corridors and natural slopes reward accuracy and imagination more than repetitive power.
History: Yani is described by APLGI as Surabaya's oldest course. It first opened in 1898 as Padang Golf Gunungsari, closed for nearly half a decade in the early 1960s, and reopened in 1965. The name changed that year to honour General Ahmad Yani. Kremmer's 1980 renovation is the clearest documented later intervention, and the club remains at the Gunungsari address that matches the directory routing.
Did You Know? Current course material describes roughly 60 hectares of grounds, including about 8 hectares of open forest with more than 80 tree species and native wildlife. That green space is part of Yani's identity, not just a backdrop. It helps explain why the course still feels separated from the city even though it sits within Surabaya, while the old tree lines reinforce its traditional European and British-style character.
