Overview: Worcester Golf Club The layout totals 18 holes at par 72 championship course in the foothills of the Brandwacht Mountains, with the Breede River Valley opening out behind the fairways. From the yellow tees it measures about 6,015 metres. Indigenous trees, dams, watercourses and large bent-grass greens give the course a strong parkland identity, while the mountain backdrop adds scale and changing light to the round.
History: The current Worcester Golf Course officially opened on 30 April 1988 and is credited to Gary Player and Peter Matkovich. It was built as a modern championship course for the valley, using the rugged natural setting rather than hiding it. The club has retained that combination of sporting ambition and local landscape, and the course remains a central part of Worcester’s wine, mountain and outdoor-tourism offer.
Did You Know? The clubhouse is fronted by a distinctive double green shared by the par-three ninth and the par-five 18th. That creates a memorable visual finish: the final approach returns to a putting surface already encountered earlier in the round, but from a completely different angle.
