Overview: Woodlands Golf Club is an 18-hole Melbourne Sandbelt course that has stayed on its original sandy site in Mordialloc since the club's beginnings. Small firm greens, narrow couch fairways and deep, carefully placed bunkers make it a course of decisions rather than a test of raw distance. The layout's compact scale and strong ground game give it a distinct character within the Sandbelt.
History: Mordialloc Golf Club was formally established in 1913, and Richard Banks laid out the first nine holes for the opening in September that year. Sam Bennetts added a second nine in 1919. J.D.A. Scott, Alec Russell and later Tom Doak each influenced important parts of the course, while the club retained its original site and changed its name to Woodlands in 1925.
Did You Know? Woodlands includes a Centenary 19th hole designed by Tom Doak in 2013. It sits alongside the regular 18-hole course as a separate extra hole, giving the club a small architectural postscript without changing the identity of the principal routing.
