Overview: Wood Friends Nagoya Port Golf Club, also known as the Tomihama Course, brings a full 18-hole round to the waterfront near Nagoya. The official scorecard lists par 72 and 6,617 yards from the back tees. Its setting is immediately coastal: the club describes the sea beyond the clubhouse, a flat layout and the steady influence of ocean wind. Broad fairways and limited out-of-bounds areas make the course approachable, but the openness also exposes poor club selection. When the wind moves across the property, a hole that looks straightforward can require a different line and a more conservative target.
History: The course opened on 1 October 2000 and credits Tadashi Sato with design and management, with professional golfer Ikuyo Shiotani as course supervisor. It is a public golf facility on port land, and the Port of Nagoya records its full-scale 18-hole, par-72 operation. Wood Friends became the designated operator in 2018 and the facility adopted the current Wood Friends name in the same period, linking the course's municipal setting with its present operating identity.
Did You Know? The official layout identifies the 3rd and 12th as recommended driving holes, while the 7th and 17th are the suggested nearest-the-pin holes. That pattern fits the course's design: it offers space to make a confident long swing, then asks for a more exacting iron shot later in the round. Players can also see working port traffic from parts of the course, an uncommon backdrop for a Japanese seaside round.
