Overview: Windross Farm Golf Course is an 18-hole links-style course south of Auckland, built on a former working farm at Ardmore. The official history describes a 60-hectare property shaped with lakes, rolling ground and 50,000 indigenous plants, giving the course a cultivated but open landscape. Brett Thomson of RBT Design led the architecture, with Phil Tataurangi as consultant. The result is a modern Auckland course with broad sightlines, native planting and a clear relationship to the former farm setting.
History: Manukau Golf Club began in the area in the 1920s, was formally established in 1932 and later had to move from Takanini. Play at Windross Farm began on 1 September 2016. The relocation created a new course as well as a new landscape, with the old agricultural property reworked into a golf setting and the club’s history carried forward under the Windross Farm name.
Did You Know? Windross Farm hosted the 2017 McKayson New Zealand Women’s Open, the first LPGA event held in New Zealand. Brooke Henderson won at 17 under par, finishing five shots clear. That tournament gave the young course an immediate place in the country’s professional golfing record.
