Overview: Wilshire Country Club is a private parkland course situated in the historic Hancock Park neighborhood of Los Angeles, California. Norman Macbeth designed the layout to utilize a natural barranca, a dry wash that intersects the fairways on several holes, creating unique tactical challenges. In 2010, Kyle Phillips completed a restoration that reopened historic views and brought back Macbeth's classic bunkering style.
History: It has hosted several long-established events over its history, including the Los Angeles Open and LPGA Tour tournaments. The club recently underwent renovations to modernize the irrigation system and enhance the playability of the course while preserving its golden age architecture.
Did You Know? The club was a favorite hangout for Hollywood celebrities during the golden age of cinema, attracting figures like Howard Hughes and Buster Keaton. Hughes famously landed his airplane on the fairway of the eighth hole to impress a companion at the clubhouse. The bold stunt resulted in a brief scandal but only added to the club's growing reputation as a glamourous urban oasis.
