Overview: Wild Horse Golf Course, located in Gothenburg, Nebraska, is a minimalist masterpiece that offers a pure links-style experience in the heart of the American prairie. Designed by Dan Proctor and Dave Axland, the course is characterized by its wide-open fairways, naturally occurring blowout bunkers, and the total absence of water hazards. It is widely considered one of the best value-for-money courses in the world.
History: Opened in 1999, Wild Horse was built by the local community on a modest budget, using the natural sandy soil of the Nebraska Sandhills to create a high-level layout. The designers, who both worked with the notable Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw, utilized the wind and topography to create a course that is ever-changing and deeply rewarding. It has consistently ranked among the top public courses in the United States since its opening.
Did You Know? The course was built using the same general design principles and on the same sandy soil as the ultra-exclusive Sand Hills Golf Club, leading many to call it the "poor man's Sand Hills.".
