Overview: Wichita Country Club is a historic William H. Diddel parkland course whose mature trees, traditional routing and refined green complexes give it a classic Kansas character. The current 18-hole profile records 6,814 yards and par 71. Its present setting combines established vegetation with a strategic layout that rewards accurate positioning and control around the greens. The course is part of a club with a broader athletic and social history, but the golf identity remains rooted in Diddel's thoughtful use of the land.
History: Wichita Country Club dates its golf origins to 1900, when nine holes were established near what is now College Hill Park. It moved to the area of today's MacDonald Golf Course in 1913 before relocating to its current 13th Street and Rock Road property in 1950. The current 18-hole course is credited to William H. Diddel, and the club's recent agronomy records note a master plan initiated by Tripp Davis and a 2024 renovation. That sequence makes the 1950 date a course-site milestone rather than the beginning of Wichita Country Club's golf history, which reaches back to the original nine-hole course at College Hill.
Did You Know? Wichita Country Club is described by local golf sources as the longest-running private club in Kansas to have offered golf from its inception. Its history also includes Kansas State Golf Association founder John L. Powell and former USGA president Judy Bell, both associated with the club's contribution to Kansas golf.
