Overview: White River Country Club is a bushveld course in Mpumalanga, surrounded by lowveld vegetation, warm light and the wider landscape of the Kruger gateway towns. Gary Player and Reg Taylor are credited with the modern 18-hole layout, which plays to par 71 and measures about 6,036 yards. The holes are framed by trees and natural bush, so the course’s interest comes from precision and the possibility of wildlife beyond the fairway.
History: The club was founded in 1924, but the golf course developed in stages: a nine-hole layout was in place by 1973 and the present 18-hole course opened in 1992. That sequence gives White River two histories at once, an old local club and a later championship-scale routing. The course remains part of the region’s golf-and-wildlife travel circuit.
Did You Know? The 5th is the signature par three, played over the White River. It is a useful reminder that the course’s hazards are not only bunkers and trees: the river itself becomes the target’s foreground, with the bushveld beyond the green.
