Overview: Whitchurch (Cardiff) is a tree-lined parkland course on elevated ground north of Cardiff. The gently undulating layout combines testing par threes and par fours with broad views towards the city, the Bristol Channel and the Somerset coast. Castell Coch overlooks the wider setting, while the surrounding hills shelter parts of the course and help give the 18-hole route a distinct Cardiff character.
History: Whitchurch Golf Club was founded in 1914 and began with nine holes. Fred Johns, the club's first professional, and H.J. Marjoram of Radyr were responsible for the first nine and the later full 18-hole arrangement, which was completed in 1923. The club has since hosted Welsh professional and amateur competitions.
Did You Know? Ian Woosnam won the Welsh Professional Championship at Whitchurch in 1986. The result adds a notable piece of Welsh tournament history to a course whose setting is otherwise defined by parkland, hills and the outline of Castell Coch.
