Overview: West Lancashire is a traditional links on the Merseyside coast, set between the railway and the open shore near Blundellsands. The Black, White and Red tee routing crosses firm sandy ground with low dunes, exposed wind and natural ridges, producing a test that is more about line, balance and approach angles than ornamental hazards. Views towards the Irish Sea and the estuary reinforce the course's coastal character.
History: The West Lancashire Golf Club was founded on 17 June 1873 at a meeting in the Seaforth Hotel by seven Royal Liverpool members who wanted to bring golf across the Mersey. The club and Royal Liverpool shared connections during the early years. The current course is associated with C.K. Cotton and the club remains one of the oldest surviving golf clubs in Lancashire.
Did You Know? West Lancashire's origin is a cross-Mersey story: its seven founders came from Royal Liverpool, so the club began as an expansion of an existing golfing community rather than as an isolated new venture. That link still explains its place in the history of English seaside golf.
