Overview: West End Golf Course was an 18-hole, par-60 executive course at 12830 West Newberry Road in Newberry. It is now a historical course record: the facility closed after years of declining upkeep and is not presented as an active tee-time venue.
History: The course opened in 1969 and closed in 2019 after becoming unplayable. Alachua County later purchased the property and began renovation and public-realm work, while local reporting described the former course as abandoned during the transition.
Did You Know? West End once recorded as many as 60,000 rounds in a year. That figure helps explain its former importance to the Gainesville-area golf community and the scale of the loss when the course shut down.
