Overview: Wermdö Golf and Country Club is an archipelago course on Värmdö, where rocky ground and woodland define the early holes before wetlands and water become more prominent later in the round. The setting is close to Stockholm but feels distinctly Baltic, with changing vegetation and open sky giving the course a strong local identity. Nils Sköld’s layout asks for careful positioning and an adaptable game, since the best line on the woodland holes is not always the best line once the ground becomes wetter and more open.
History: The course was developed between 1962 and 1966 and the facility was inaugurated in 1966. Nils Sköld is credited with the original design, while Bob Kains carried out a later rebuild between 2004 and 2007. That work updated the course without removing the underlying archipelago character, so the present layout still reads as a conversation between classic Swedish parkland and coastal woodland.
Did You Know? Water becomes especially important through holes 11 to 16. The back-nine sequence therefore feels materially different from the rocky front nine, creating a clear change of landscape before the course returns toward the clubhouse.
