Overview: Wequetonsing is a private Harbor Springs club whose golf identity reaches back to the earliest organized play in northern Michigan. The course sits among the wooded shoreline country of Little Traverse Bay, with a quiet, established setting that feels very different from the larger resort complexes nearby. Its present layout is the product of long adjustment to the land rather than a single modern construction campaign. That gives the round an old-club character, where the sequence of holes and the surrounding community history are as important as a headline yardage.
History: Formal golf activity at Wequetonsing dates to 1896, when a Golf Committee began organising play on leased links. After the Brower property was acquired in 1920, Robert Foulis was hired to rearrange the course, and major changes continued through 1927. The club’s own history says the course then remained largely unchanged until later tee work on holes 5 and 18. This layered chronology explains why the profile credits Foulis with a documented rearrangement role rather than claiming he designed every part of the course.
Did You Know? Wequetonsing’s current course history includes a hole called Reynold’s Revenge. It is part of the small set of later tee changes that distinguish the present course from the layout that settled in 1927.
