Overview: Welshpool Golf Club occupies the elevated ground of Golfa Hill above the town, where an 18-hole mountain course follows a series of high fairways and natural slopes. The terrain creates pronounced changes of elevation, open wind exposure and broad views across Mid Wales, the Shropshire Hills and towards Snowdonia. Gorse and uneven ground add definition to the route, while the high setting makes every change of direction visible from the surrounding landscape.
History: Welshpool Golf Club was established in 1894 in the Deer Park of Powis Castle. After a period at Red Bank, the club moved to its current home on Golfa Hill in 1930. James Braid designed the course at the hilltop site, giving the club a new layout whose elevation and natural contours remain central to its identity.
Did You Know? Welshpool's current course is a direct product of a relocation rather than a single-site foundation. The club began in the Deer Park of Powis Castle, moved through Red Bank, and finally settled on Golfa Hill, where the high ground became the defining feature of the 18-hole course.
