Overview: Waterkloof Golf Club is a Pretoria parkland course set among the city’s eastern ridges, where elevation changes and broad Gauteng skies give the round a spacious feel. The 18-hole layout uses mature trees, water features and sloping fairways to create different shot requirements across the property. It is a course that can look generous from the tee and become exacting around the greens, particularly when the uphill or downhill lie is underestimated.
History: The club was founded on 5 May 1969, and Gary Player, Sid Brews and Brian Vincent designed and built the course. It opened for play on 1 January 1978 and received its official opening later that September. Peter Matkovich redesigned the course in 2004, adding a modern layer to a layout with a clear place in Pretoria’s golf history.
Did You Know? Waterkloof’s name is a useful clue to the terrain. The course is not defined by one theatrical water hole; its character comes from the way the Pretoria ridges, drainage lines and elevation changes repeatedly alter the angle and balance of an ordinary-looking shot.
