Overview: Washington National Golf Club is an 18-hole John Fought design in Auburn and the official home course of the University of Washington men's and women's golf teams. The layout ranges from about 5,100 to 7,300 yards and uses bentgrass fairways and greens, native areas and shaped sand features to create a distinctly collegiate identity. From the longest markers it is a demanding par-72 championship test, while the shorter tee positions make the same routing more adaptable. The Auburn setting combines open campus-like ground with the wooded edges of the Puget Sound region.
History: The course was built in 2000 and became the Husky teams' home through a sponsorship agreement with the university. Washington National soon developed a tournament record that includes the 2003 NCAA Women's Golf Championship, the 2003 NCAA Men's West Regional and the 2006 and 2011 women's West Regionals. The official history also records the 2010 Husky Invitational and the course's nomination as a best new public course in 2001.
Did You Know? The university theme reaches beyond the course name. The original tee system used Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior and Husky markers, and a Block W bunker on the 18th fairway ties the layout visually to the University of Washington.
