Overview: The Walton Heath Golf Club (Old) profile records 7462 yards and par 72 for this heathland routing. The course is presented here as a par-72 championship test with the directory's 7,462-yard figure, while the club also publishes shorter daily tee options. Deep, springy fairways run through heather, gorse and open heath, and the large greens can be approached from several angles if the tee shot has been placed correctly. The opening six holes are a serious start, and the back nine continues to demand a broad range of shots rather than allowing a player to rely on one strength. The course feels spacious, but its strategic choices are tightly connected to the position of the next shot.
History: Herbert Fowler created the Old Course at the beginning of the twentieth century, and it opened with an exhibition match between J.H. Taylor, Harry Vardon and James Braid in 1904. Walton Heath became a regular venue for major amateur and professional golf, including the 1981 Ryder Cup and the 2023 AIG Women's Open. The club has also undertaken phased restoration under Tom Mackenzie and Martin Ebert, aiming to recover the original heathland character without turning the course into a museum piece. The New Course is a separate routing beside the Old; its history and yardage are not combined here.
Did You Know? Walton Heath's Old Course has appeared in the world's major Top 100 rankings since the lists began in 1938. It is also one of the few courses to have hosted both the Ryder Cup and the AIG Women's Open, linking its heathland tradition to very different generations of championship golf.
