Overview: Wakonda Club is a Des Moines parkland course shaped by William Langford and Theodore Moreau. The routing uses mature trees, rolling ground, and carefully angled greens to create a strategic course whose interest comes from the relationship between the original design ideas and the Iowa landscape.
History: Work on Wakonda began in 1920, and the course opened on July 4, 1922. The club originally planned 27 holes, but the present course is built around the 18-hole Langford and Moreau design, with later restoration work intended to recover its original character.
Did You Know? Wakonda’s course opened on July 4, 1922, giving its anniversary a fixed date that remains part of the club’s history.
