Overview: Waitakere Golf Course is an 18-hole woodland layout tucked into a corner of Cascade Kauri Park, around 30 minutes from Auckland’s centre. The club describes four par fives and a course where no two holes are alike. The measured hole lengths total approximately 5,667 metres, or 6,194 yards, and the routing repeatedly changes elevation: a downhill start, uphill approaches, tree-lined doglegs and several holes played from or through the bush.
History: Waitakere’s present identity is inseparable from its setting in the western Auckland bush landscape. Auckland Council lists it as an 18-hole parkland course, while the club’s current tour explains how the layout uses the natural folds, trees and water around the property. A formal opening date and named architect are not published in the sources reviewed, so the profile avoids turning local character into an unsupported construction history.
Did You Know? The sixth hole is Waitakere’s signature: the tee is played from an artificial-turf mat in the bush to a green surrounded on three sides by lateral hazards. It is a compact example of the course’s personality, where the unusual starting position and the surrounding vegetation make a short hole feel much more demanding than its distance.
