Overview: The Gold Course at Wailea climbs through the foothills of Haleakalā, with lava rock, Hawaiian grasses, ocean views and a more rugged texture than the resort’s Blue course. Robert Trent Jones II designed the 7,078-yard par-72 routing around elevation changes, bunker placement and the natural contours of south Maui’s volcanic ground.
History: Gold opened in 1994 as one of the two Robert Trent Jones II courses at Wailea, following the original Blue Course. The current resort presents Gold alongside Emerald as a separate layout with its own character, while the design record credits Jones II for both newer courses.
Did You Know? Gold uses lava rock and native grasses as visible course boundaries. Those materials are part of the south-Maui landscape, and their presence gives the course a harder, more open edge than a fully landscaped parkland course.
