Overview: The Kings Course at Waikoloa Beach Golf Club is a resort routing on Hawaii Island’s Kohala Coast. Tom Weiskopf and Jay Morrish worked across lava fields, kiawe woodland and open coastal ground to create a layout with wide views and varied lies. The course’s resort character is balanced by strategic angles, volcanic textures and the trade winds that move through the property.
History: The Kings Course opened in February 1990 as part of the Waikoloa Beach Resort golf development. Weiskopf and Morrish shaped the course around the existing volcanic landscape, using the land’s dark lava formations and native vegetation as visual and strategic features.
Did You Know? Waikoloa’s golf fact sheet describes the Kings Course as the result of routing holes through lava fields and dry forest. That combination gives the course a distinctive Hawaii setting without relying on constant oceanfront holes, with volcanic ground remaining visible throughout the round.
