Overview: Waiehu Golf Course is a public county course on Maui’s north shore, with coastal wind, low rolling ground and views across the ocean and West Maui Mountains. The county’s full routing is a practical local course with exposed approaches and changing firmness. Its position near the water gives the wind a larger role than the modest yardage suggests.
History: Maui County opened the public course on January 1, 1930, making Waiehu one of the early public golf facilities in Hawaiʻi. Historical accounts describe a nine-hole, par-37 beginning, followed by the later 18-hole municipal routing. The current facility remains operated by the county.
Did You Know? Waiehu is often described as the second public course in Hawaiʻi after Moanalua. Its early history therefore links two surviving public courses across different islands and two very different coastal settings.
