Overview: Often cited as Tom Fazio's absolute mountain masterpiece, Wade Hampton Golf Club is beautifully carved into a spectacular valley in the High Carolina Blue Ridge Mountains. Unlike many mountain layouts that feel severe, awkward, or manufactured, this course flows entirely naturally with the elevation changes. Clear mountain streams and majestic hardwoods frame every hole, presenting a serene, beautifully manicured test of golf that looks more like a high-end arboretum than a golf course.
History: Opened in 1987, the course was built on the historic winter estate of the prominent Wade Hampton family, which includes a Confederate General and South Carolina Governor. Fazio worked closely with the natural topography, using the flowing creeks and rocky ridges to define the strategic hazards. The club has spent subsequent decades maintaining exceptionally high maintenance standards and preserving the architectural purity of Fazio's routing.
Did You Know? The course is highly exclusive and is closed during the winter months when heavy mountain snows blanket the valley. The signature par-4 18th hole plays alongside a cascading mountain stream to a green nestled directly below the historic shingle-style clubhouse, providing a dramatic finish to a visually stunning round.
