Overview: Wachesaw Plantation East is an 18-hole public course in Murrells Inlet built on the site of a former rice plantation. Clyde Johnston designed the par-72 routing in a traditional Scottish-influenced style, using rolling fairways, freshwater lakes, wetlands and TifEagle greens to create a varied Lowcountry round. The back tees extend to 6,933 yards, but the course offers five tee areas and a visual rhythm that suits a wide range of players.
History: Wachesaw East opened in 1996 and soon became a tournament venue, hosting four nationally televised LPGA events between 1997 and 2000. The course's history is also tied to the plantation landscape on which it sits, where wetlands and former agricultural waterways shaped the available ground. That combination of golf development and Lowcountry history remains central to the character of the routing.
Did You Know? Meg Mallon set the course record with a 10-under-par 62 during the 1998 City of Hope Classic. The record is part of a larger tournament story that includes the Susan G. Komen International, the City of Hope Myrtle Beach Classic and the Kathy Ireland/Greens.com Classic.
