Overview: Located in a quiet valley in the canton of Fribourg, Vuissens Golf Club is an 18-hole parkland course designed by British architect Jeremy Pern. The layout is routed across undulating terrain adjacent to the medieval Château de Vuissens, with holes winding along natural water features and mature forest borders. The course features fairways framed by native trees, requiring accurate iron play to reach small, protected putting surfaces that are bisected by the crossing Petite Glâne stream.
History: The club's origins began in 1994 when industrialist Claude Thalmann acquired the château with the vision of developing a golf facility on the surrounding agricultural land. Pern was commissioned to design the 18 holes, which preserved the valley's original topography. The first six holes were opened to players in 2001, followed by the completion of the full 18-hole routing by the end of 2002. In 2005, the estate's ruined 1744 barn was restored and opened as the golf club's official clubhouse.
Did You Know? The castle adjacent to the course dates back to approximately 1200, with early historical records mentioning Peter, a knight of Vuissens, in 1217. Today, players can visit the castle's restored North Wing, which has been converted into a public restaurant containing the historic Knights' Hall (*Salle des Chevaliers*).
