Overview: Visby Golf Club, specifically "The One" course, is a spectacular seaside and coastal links layout located on the enchanting island of Gotland in the Baltic Sea, Sweden. The course features breathtaking holes that run hard against the coastline, providing panoramic views of the sea from almost every vantage point. Winding through rolling sand dunes and windswept pines, it offers a dramatic and highly strategic test of golf, where the firm, fast fescue turf and unpredictable Baltic winds require traditional links tactics and creative shot-making.
History: Originally opened in 1958 and designed by Nils Sköld, the course underwent a massive and highly acclaimed redesign in 2008 by former European Tour player Pierre Fulke. This extensive project cleared out non-native trees, expanded the fairways to the sea, and rebuilt all 18 greens, completely transforming the layout. This successful renovation elevated its status, vaulting it into the top tier of Swedish golf courses and establishing it as a world-class destination.
Did You Know? The course is situated on a historic Viking trading post, and during the 2008 renovation, several ancient artifacts were unearthed, adding a fascinating layer of historical significance to the property. The signature par-3 6th hole plays directly along the rocky beach, requiring a precise tee shot that is highly vulnerable to the strong Baltic sea breezes.
