Overview: Situated on the rocky shores of Lake Saimaa, the Etelä-Saimaa course at Viipurin Golf is a scenic Finnish parkland course designed by Swedish architect Peter Fjällman. The layout features rolling fairways that wind through mature birch and pine forests and rocky granite outcroppings, with water directly bordering many holes. The small, well-defended greens and the constant lakeside breeze provide a formidable strategic test that demands precision off the tee and disciplined approach shots.
History: While the club itself dates back to the historic city of Viipuri, the club relocated to Lappeenranta and opened the championship 18-hole Etelä-Saimaa course in 2007. The course quickly achieved national recognition for its visual appeal and high-quality conditioning, consistently ranking among Finland's most popular resort destinations.
Did You Know? The course is built on a peninsula surrounded by Lake Saimaa, the largest lake in Finland, and players must play across or alongside the water on no fewer than twelve holes, offering panoramic views of the water.
