Overview: Vermont National Country Club in South Burlington is an 18-hole Jack Nicklaus Signature course spread across rolling former farmland. The setting looks toward both the Green and Adirondack Mountains, while the routing moves through meadow, woodland, wetlands and ponds. That combination gives the course a broad northern New England character: the land is open enough for long views, yet water and changing lies make position matter. At 7,035 yards and par 72, it has championship scale without losing the rhythm of a parkland course.
History: Construction began in the summer of 1996 after the Economou family received permission to build on a 400-acre dairy farm. Nicklaus Design was brought in to shape the private club. The front nine and driving range opened on July 17, 1998, the back nine followed in the summer of 1999, and the main clubhouse opened in 2000. That sequence explains why the club’s 1998 founding date and the completed 18-hole facility’s later milestones are both part of its story.
Did You Know? The original Farmhouse served as the club’s first clubhouse when the front nine opened. Vermont National describes the course as the first Jack Nicklaus Signature design of its kind in New England, giving the South Burlington property a notable place in the region’s modern golf history.
