Overview: Located near Varberg on the western coast of Sweden, the Västra (West) Course at Varbergs Golfklubb is a highly scenic 18-hole woodland course. Winding through dense pine forests directly adjacent to the Kattegat sea, the layout features tight, tree-lined fairways, subtle elevation changes, and small, well-defended putting surfaces. The course demands precise ball placement to navigate the narrow forest corridors and the deep coastal sands.
History: Opened in the 1970s, the West Course was built to establish a premier competitive venue in Halland county. The layout was carefully integrated into the natural sand dunes, minimizing earth movement to preserve the historic coastal ecosystem and providing a highly unique, firm-and-fast playing experience.
Did You Know? Because the course is built entirely upon an ancient coastal sand dune formation, the incredibly sandy subsoil provides incredibly rapid drainage, ensuring the fairways remain incredibly firm and fiery throughout the year.
