Overview: Vara-Bjertorp Golfklubb is a parkland course beside Bjertorp Castle in Västergötland. The estate setting gives the 18 holes a distinctive sense of place, with open countryside, mature vegetation and the castle landscape shaping the views between shots. Jan Sederholm’s design uses the land in a measured way, giving the player a mixture of longer positioning holes, framed approaches and greens that reward a good understanding of the ground. The course feels rural and spacious, while its par-72 scorecard still provides a substantial test.
History: The club project began in the 1980s and the golf club was formed on 1 April 1987. Jan Sederholm was appointed architect, groundbreaking took place on 25 May 1988, and the 18-hole course was completed in 1990. The official inauguration was held on 12 August 1990, giving the course a precisely documented opening milestone rather than a vague development date.
Did You Know? Vara-Bjertorp was developed in the grounds of a historic castle estate. A round therefore combines a modern golf course with a landscape whose architectural and agricultural history is much older than the club.
