Overview: Vale do Lobo Ocean is the coastal 18-hole routing formed from two earlier nine-hole courses by Sir Henry Cotton. Opening holes sit among greener parkland before the later stretch moves toward the Atlantic, where fairways run beside the nature reserve and the sea becomes a direct visual and strategic influence. Its par-73 scorecard and long coastal corridors create a different rhythm from tighter inland courses. The appeal is not simply the view, but the gradual change from tree-lined positioning golf to exposed shoreline play.
History: Cotton’s original nine-hole courses date from 1968, with the Ocean routing assembled from those earlier loops and the back nine renovated before reopening in the mid-1990s. Vale do Lobo’s history places the Ocean configuration in the 1995 period, while the current course profile is commonly dated 1995. That distinction keeps the target year attached to the present 18-hole identity without erasing the older Cotton history.
Did You Know? The Ocean name describes more than a distant horizon. Several holes run alongside protected coastal landscape, and the route toward the shoreline exposes the ball to a different scale and changing wind. The signature experience is a transition: the same Cotton heritage is first read through trees and then through open ground beside the Atlantic.
