Overview: Vaal de Grace Golf Estate has an 18-hole Nick Price signature course built across an island in the Vaal River near Parys. Fourteen holes sit on the North West side of the provincial boundary and four lie in the Free State, creating a routing with an unusual geographic identity. River views, open grassland, birdlife and the surrounding Vredefort Dome region give the course a sense of space that is hard to reproduce in a conventional estate.
History: Nick Price struck the first ceremonial shot on 1 December 2008, marking the start of a course designed as the centre of a river-island residential and leisure development. The estate was planned around 300 stands on approximately 154 hectares, with the golf course and the Vaal River as its defining public-facing features. The course’s development history is inseparable from the landscape: the island was the idea, not merely the location.
Did You Know? Vaal de Grace is divided between two provinces. Fourteen holes lie in North West and the remaining four in the Free State, so a single round crosses an invisible administrative boundary while staying within the same river landscape.
