Overview: Upper Montclair’s South/West routing is an 18-hole combination within a private 27-hole championship complex in Clifton, New Jersey. The course carries A.W. Tillinghast’s early architectural heritage and Robert Trent Jones Sr.’s later transformation, with bold fairway lines, strategic bunkers, and varied green approaches.
History: The club began with five holes in 1901, grew to nine, and received an 18-hole Tillinghast routing in 1929. Highway construction led to a major Jones redesign, and the present 27-hole complex was completed in 1956; South/West is the combination used for major tournament play.
Did You Know? Upper Montclair is one of the few clubs to have hosted professional events from all three major American tours: PGA, LPGA, and Champions Tour events have all been played over its nines.
