Overview: The University of Georgia Golf Course is an 18-hole Robert Trent Jones design on the university campus in Athens. The current official scorecard shows the Bulldog tees at 7,258 yards, with the course generally playing to par 71; the 18th can be configured as either par 4 or par 5, which accounts for the occasional par-72 listing. Rolling northeast Georgia terrain, mature trees, Bermuda fairways and bentgrass greens give the course a classic university championship profile. Water guards several holes and bunkers frame the approach areas, but the central challenge is the relationship between long tee shots and fast, carefully positioned greens. It is a course that can look generous from the fairway and still demand precise decisions near the putting surface.
History: The course was built in 1968 and designed by Robert Trent Jones. It became the home layout for the Georgia Bulldogs and has maintained a strong connection with collegiate competition and public golf in Athens. A large-scale renovation by Love Golf Design in 2006 updated the greens and other playing features while retaining the core Jones character. That balance between an established routing and later improvement is an important part of the course’s identity: it remains recognisably a Jones design, but it continues to support modern university golf and substantial daily play.
Did You Know? The final hole is unusual because the official scorecard allows it to play as a par 4 or par 5. That single setup choice changes the course total from par 71 to par 72 and explains why both figures appear in otherwise authoritative UGA records.
