Overview: Ulverston Golf Club is set in Bardsea Park, south of the market town on the Furness peninsula. Its rolling parkland measures about 6,230 yards to a par of 71, and pronounced undulations mean few flat lies. The setting is a large part of the appeal, with views over Morecambe Bay to one side and the Lake District fells to the north, and the bay breeze often has a say in club choice. The modern route holds the rolling character of Bardsea Park rather than flattening it into a conventional resort layout. Approaches often come from sloping ground, and the open setting keeps the sea air in the round even where trees define the fairway.
History: Ulverston Golf Club took its present home at Bardsea Park in 1910, fifteen years after the club began. Alex Herd influenced the early course, and Harry Colt was brought in during the 1920s to remodel it. The current parkland layout reflects that layered history, combining an older estate setting with Colt’s later strategic changes.
Did You Know? Ulverston is one of several clubs in this cohort belonging to the 1895 Club, but its present course is younger than the club: golf has been played in Bardsea Park only since the 1910 move.
