Overview: Tura Beach Country Club has an 18-hole championship course on the NSW South Coast between Merimbula and the wider Sapphire Coast. Peter Thomson and Mike Wolveridge designed a layout that moves between coastal bushland, flatter links-style ground and beachfront views. The current card lists 5,772 metres, with men’s par shown as 69 or 70 depending on the tee setup and women’s par 73 or 74. Water, wind and the signature par-three fifth give the course a distinct seaside identity without making it inaccessible to ordinary visitors.
History: The course belongs to the Thomson/Wolveridge tradition of Australian coastal design, where the architects use the existing landscape rather than imposing a uniform parkland pattern. Tura Beach has developed as both a community club and a holiday-golf stop, with the course and surrounding South Coast setting working together. The present layout remains an 18-hole championship course, even though the official rating varies by tee and gender.
Did You Know? The fifth is the hole most often singled out by the club: it is a par three requiring a carry over water with ocean views behind the green. The official card’s multiple par values also show why a single generic number can be misleading when describing Tura Beach.
