Overview: Tumble Creek at Suncadia is a private 18-hole mountain course in Cle Elum, where Tom Doak routed a par-71 layout across forest, meadow, river-bluff and rolling Cascade terrain. From the championship markers the course reaches 7,122 yards, but its identity comes less from raw length than from the way tilted greens, changing elevation and restrained bunker shapes ask for careful positioning. Native Douglas fir and ponderosa pine frame broad playing corridors, while the open land between holes keeps the setting quiet and spacious.
History: Tumble Creek opened in 2005 as the private side of the larger Suncadia resort. Doak’s concept drew on the parkland courses of the American Northeast, using the existing landforms instead of forcing a heavily engineered shape onto the site. The course occupies roughly 400 acres and was designed to preserve views toward the river and mountains while keeping homes from dominating the golf. Its strategic character comes from large, moving greens, natural edges and a routing that follows the contours of the property.
Did You Know? Tumble Creek’s scorecard documents Tom Doak as architect and dates the design to 2005. The layout also contains about 100 natural-edge bunkers, a detail that helps explain why the hazards look integrated with the surrounding ground rather than placed as isolated decoration.
