Overview: The Championship Course at Trump National Golf Club Washington, D.C. occupies a long stretch beside the Potomac River in Sterling. Tom Fazio's design uses the river frontage as an active part of the round, with broad fairways leading toward water, carefully placed bunkers and approaches that change with the wind. At 7,693 yards and par 72, the course has championship scale, yet its multiple tee positions allow the same routing to be played through different strategic windows. River views are a constant presence without replacing the demands of the golf.
History: The course was developed as part of the Lowes Island golf project and opened in 1993. It later became Trump National Washington, D.C., with the original Fazio design remaining the Championship Course. The layout's competitive reputation grew through national events, most notably the 2017 KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship, won by Bernhard Langer. The club's current presentation continues to identify the course with its Potomac setting and Fazio authorship.
Did You Know? Thirteen holes on the Championship Course have direct Potomac River frontage, according to the club's own course description. That is a notable proportion of the routing, and it explains why wind direction and the river's changing visual position can affect club selection throughout the round.
