Overview: Troon Country Club is a private Weiskopf and Morrish design in Scottsdale, positioned among the foothills and desert vegetation of North Scottsdale. The course uses changes in elevation, mountain views and carefully shaped fairways to create a desert round with a traditional parkland rhythm. Its playing character comes from changing angles and terrain, not from forcing every shot over desert.
History: Troon opened in 1986 as the first design collaboration between Tom Weiskopf and Jay Morrish. The club’s own history says the name was inspired by Royal Troon, where Weiskopf won the 1973 Open Championship.
Did You Know? The course was named for Royal Troon after Weiskopf’s 1973 Open victory there. That link is more than a naming detail: Troon Country Club was the beginning of a design partnership that later produced many courses in the American Southwest and elsewhere.
