Overview: Smith Signature is a public Rick Smith course at Treetops Resort in Gaylord, Michigan. Its wooded northern setting and demanding greens are paired with an inland interpretation of Scottish and Irish golf, giving the course a links-inspired rhythm without leaving the hardwood forests of the state.

History: The course was established in 1993 as the first of three Rick Smith-designed layouts at Treetops. Smith drew on his study of Scotland and Ireland, then used the rolling Michigan property to create a course that became an early signature of the resort’s national golf identity.

Did You Know? Smith Signature was the course that launched Rick Smith’s design work at Treetops. The resort later added his Tradition and Threetops layouts, creating a small architectural group that traces the evolution of his ideas in one northern-Michigan setting.
