Overview: Tradition Golf Club is Arnold Palmer’s desert course in La Quinta, set against the Santa Rosa Mountains and shaped around wide views, water features and dramatic elevation changes. The private 18-hole championship routing is commonly listed at par 72 and about 6,884 yards. The course is playable in its broad corridors but asks for care around split greens, fast putting surfaces, desert edges and Palmer’s signature risk-and-reward decisions.
History: Tradition was created as Palmer’s desert home and as the centrepiece of a private golf community. The club’s own material stresses that every tee, green, fairway and bunker is maintained as part of a complete design vision, with the course and practice facilities treated as one experience. A precise opening year is left blank because the current operator and supporting references reviewed did not agree on a date.
Did You Know? The 17th hole is Tradition’s signature: an elevated tee drops more than 200 feet toward the fairway and creates one of the strongest visual moments in the Coachella Valley. The club also says Palmer’s personal tee box can be found on the hole. Alongside the championship course is a 796-yard par-27 short course, which is a separate routing rather than part of this directory entry.
