Overview: Among Pawleys Island's golf courses, Tradition Golf Club is a Ron Garl design with 18 holes, set among centuries-old oaks, broad tree-lined fairways, water and Lowcountry vegetation. The par-72 course stretches to 6,875 yards from the back tees and offers five tee areas, wide landing zones and large greens that support a playable round while still demanding thoughtful approaches. Its character is spacious and natural rather than overly theatrical.
History: Tradition opened in 1996 as one of Ron Garl's few Carolina designs and quickly received attention as a new public course. In 2001 it was named South Carolina Golf Course of the Year, and later course materials noted its continuing Golf Digest recognition. The club remains part of the Waccamaw Golf Trail and the broader Pawleys Island golf destination.
Did You Know? Tradition's practice complex includes a large clover-shaped putting green with four separate practice areas. The course itself also offers two island greens and a 500-yard par-five 14th that can be reached in two by longer players, so the facility's emphasis on shot variety starts before the first tee.
